Today, nearly 285 million people suffer from visual impairment worldwide. Yet 80% of these cases could be prevented! Devoted to the problem of blindness occurring in every corner of the planet, World Sight Day provides the perfect opportunity for L'OCCITANE to highlight these issues and invite its customers to join the fight against preventable blindness. Like every year, L’OCCITANE sells a special soap rich in shea butter of which 100% of the profits* are donated to projects fighting avoidable blindness in developing countries.
In 2013, almost 190,000€ was raised through the sale of the “solidarity soaps”. With these funds, the L’OCCITANE Foundation was able to launch a new program in Burkina Faso with the NGO Sight Savers. The goal? To eliminate onchocerciasis and trachoma (overlooked tropical diseases that cause blindness) in the southwestern Cascades region of the country. With this new collaboration, 40,000 people will be treated. Want to participate? Enjoy the apricot fragrance of this year’s solidarity soap and join the fight against preventable blindness!
*Selling price in stores, excluding taxes, transportation and production costs.
