Last July 3, the Portuguese photographer Paulo Nozolino, accompanied by Olivier Baussan, founder of L'Occitane and François Hébel, the director of the Rencontres d'Arles, were kind enough to answer a few questions about the exhibition currently showing at the Palais de Luppé. This black and white photography exhibition is presented as diptyques and was commissioned by L’OCCITANE en Provence, who here participates in Les Rencontres d'Arles for the first time. An event commensurate with the theme provided to the photographer, lavender. The subject could appear ordinary, but the angle of lavender’s decline and its treatment by Paulo Nozolino make for a genuine cry of alarm. With this commission, L'Occitane pursues its engagement of alerting the public to the critical situation that Provençale lavender is suffering. Thanks to the research led by the French fragrant plants research organization the CRIEPPAM, the rallying of industry actors in Provence, and the fund created by L'Occitane en Provence, the situation has every chance of improving if donations are collected. This is the real challenge of this exhibition, which will travel around the world to transmit a message. Paulo Nozolino and his photographs will be lavender’s ambassadors, alerting lovers of Provence to the problem.
