WHAT ARE NATURAL DEODORANTS AND WHAT ARE THEIR BENEFITS?

For more than 50 years, deodorant has been an integral part of our beauty routine, a not so trivial little gesture that we often do just after the morning shower. But for some time now, a component present in most traditional deodorants has been singled out: aluminum salts. The main issue with alumium salts is that they block sweat: our healthy way of cooling down the body. L'Occitane offers deodorants without aluminum salts, both gentle on your body and merciless with odours.

PERSPIRATION & DEODORANTS, WHAT DOES A DEODORANT DO?

Do you know the role of sweating? It is a natural mechanism, intended for the regulation of the temperature of your body. As soon as your body temperature rises, whether it is due to the hot weather, an activity an effort or even a strong reaction, the perspiration process begins to help you regain a normal temperature.

For this, small so-called sweat glands, located mainly in your armpits, soles of the feet and palms of the hands are activated to form sweat. A body that sweats is a body that breathes.

BUT WHY DOES PERSPIRATION (SOMETIMES) SMELL BAD?

Sweat is actually naturally odorless. It is not the sweat that "smells bad" directly, but the contact with the bacteria present on the surface of our skin. This is because bacteria consumes the sweat produced and produce chemical components responsible for the odor. Hence the fact that some people "feel" the perspiration more than others! This is how deodorant has become a must.

DEODORANT VS ANTIPERSPIRANT

Not always easy to spot, the words “antiperspirant” are often present next to the generic term “deodorant". However, behind names deodorant and antiperspirant are in fact two very different modes of action. The deodorant absorbs moisture (by mineral powders) and prevents the development of bacteria responsible for bad smells ... (by alcohol or essential oils).

As for the antiperspirant, it contains anti-transpirantsusually aluminum salts, which reduce the production of sweat glands. They form like "little plugs": temporary in the sweat pores preventing the release of sweat. But some antiperspirants can also have a deodorizing effect ... The right attitude? Ask yourself what level of protection do you really need.

NATURE RESPECTING THE SKIN

Plants with deodorantabsorbent or even purifying properties are present in nature. Verbena, tapioca, palmarossa, lavender, citron or sage are all treasures capable of helping you face the consequences of sweating.

If they are sometimes present in the form of extracts, it is often as essential oils that these plants are used in the formulation of deodorant care. The essential oils of sage, sweet orange or lemon indeed help to limit the development of unpleasant odors.

True to our values, we have designed different ranges of deodorants focusing on these valuable ingredients.
