Earth Day

In celebration of Green Day, from 27th – 30th May we are donating €5 from each Eco-Refill sold to Clean Coasts.

The reality is simple: Up to 12.7 million tons of plastic enter oceans across the globe every year, with each individual piece of plastic taking up to 1,000 years to degrade. Through our commitment to reducing waste, our plan of action is based on 3 pillars: REDUCE, RECYCLE REACT. In order to help combat the current extent of plastic pollution, one thing we can do at L’OCCITANE is reduce the production of single-use plastic to create our products, and offer customers suitable, affordable alternatives.

Some Alarming Facts...

Alarming fact: By 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the ocean.

What we do: We have never had plastic bags in our stores, and are phasing out plastic cellophane and plastic spatulas.

Alarming fact: 50% of the plastic the world uses is used just once, then thrown away.

What we do: 25 L'OCCITANE products are already available in eco-refills, which use an average of 85% less plastic than a standard bottle.

Alarming fact:Over the last 10 years, humans have produced more plastic than during the whole of last century.

What we do: By 2025, 100% of our plastic bottles will be produced from 100% recycled material.

Fill for the future - to celebrate Green Day, we are offering you a free Eco Travel Bottle Set Kit when you spend €45 (worth €18).

Designed by French artist Mathilde Cabanas, the Eco Travel Bottle Set Kit includes: x1 cosmetic bag (made entirely from recycled PET plastic), x2 100ml empty bottles, x1 50ml empty spray bottle & x1 50ml empty tin. The concept of refilling has existed at L’OCCITANE since the brand was founded in 1976. L’OCCITANE’s founder Olivier Baussan was ahead of his time, and launched a glass bottle refill and recycle system in 1976, encouraging his customers to refill and reuse their bottles, or return them to be recycled at a local recycling facility in Nice.

Our eco-refills in their current form were launched in 2008, and are available across 25 products. Eco-Refills at L’OCCITANE use an average of 85% less plastic than a regular bottle!

1 Eco-Refill Sold = €5 donated to Clean Coasts

This Green Day, 27th - 30th May 2021, we have teamed up with Clean Coasts again! The Clean Coasts programme works with communities to help protect and care for Ireland’s seas, ocean, coastline, waterways and marine life. We will be donating €5 from every eco-refill sold to help Clean Coasts.

Clean Coasts are creating a tangible and immediate improvement to Ireland’s coastal environment through, 100s of beach cleans, mobilising thousands of volunteers and  removing considerable quantities of marine litter from our coastline each year.

Join The Refill Revolution

L’OCCITANE urges consumers to reduce their single use plastic purchases and make the switch to more sustainable, refillable options to fight the waves of plastic pollution. Using eco-refills for your beauty and cosmetics products is an additional way we can all reduce plastic consumption and pollution on an enormous scale!

Over the last couple of years, we have made ambitious targets with regards to reducing our plastic consumption and we are well on track to achieve them. For example, by 2022, 100% of our bottles will be made from 100% recycled PET plastic.

Eco-Refills use an average of 85% less plastic compared to our regular packaging.

TerraCycle®: Our Recycling Partner

A pioneering (and very green!) company, TerraCycle® is the world leader in the collection and recycling of post-consumer waste that's usually considered non-recyclable. It teams up with companies who want to find ways to recycle or upcycle their waste. TerraCycle® can recycle plastic cups, toothbrushes, pens, batteries, art supplies, cigarette waste... It's an incredible list – that's incredibly long! Through partnerships with brands like L'OCCITANE, it takes used packaging and turns it into raw materials that can be used to make new items.

Now, more than ever, we must aim for sustainable solutions, a cleaner environment and a more circular economy. TerraCycle® is helping to make this possible.

Respecting Biodiversity Commitment

We love Provence and the South of France. After all, that's where our roots lie. So it's only natural that we should want to protect and promote the biodiversity of the Mediterranean Basin. This "biodiversity hotspot" is one of the richest ecosystems in the world. We intend to do our bit to protect this precious environment.
