In celebration of Green Day, from 26th – 29th May we have once again teamed up with Clean Coasts.
The reality is simple: Up to 12.7 million tons of plastic enter oceans across the globe every year, with each individual piece of plastic taking up to 1,000 years to degrade. Through our commitment to reducing
waste, our plan of action is based on 3 pillars: REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE. In order to help combat the current extent of plastic pollution, one thing we can do at L’OCCITANE is reduce the production of single-use plastic to create our products, and offer customers suitable, affordable alternatives.
Alarming Fact: By 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the ocean.
What We Do: We have never had plastic bags in our stores, and are phasing out plastic cellophane and plastic spatulas.
Alarming Fact: 50% of the plastic the world uses is used just once, then thrown away.
What We Do: 25 L'OCCITANE products are already available in eco-refills, which use an average of 85% less plastic than a standard bottle.
Alarming Fact:Over the last 10 years, humans have produced more plastic than during the whole of last century.
What We Do: By 2025, 100% of our plastic bottles will be produced from 100% recycled material.
Green Day is hugely important to us here at L’OCCITANE because it celebrates our key commitment to Reduce Waste. L’OCCITANE’s founder Olivier Baussan was ahead of his time; in 1976 he encouraged his customers to refill and reuse their glass bottles, or return them to be recycled at a local recycling facility in Nice.
The eco-refills, first launched in 2008, are one of the main ways we reduce waste because they use 85% less plastic on average than bottles, saving L’OCCITANE 200 tons of plastic a year. This makes a huge difference because plastic is invading our oceans and infiltrating our food chains, with 20 tons of plastic being thrown into the ocean every minute. With plastic taking around 1,000 years to degrade and worse still, never fully decomposing, we are running out of space on our beautiful planet to store this rubbish.
This Green Day, 26th - 29th May 2022, we have teamed up with Clean Coasts again! The Clean Coasts programme works with communities to help protect and care for Ireland’s seas, ocean, coastline, waterways and marine life. We will be donating €5 from every eco-refill sold to help Clean Coasts.
Clean Coasts are creating a tangible and immediate improvement to Ireland’s coastal environment through, hundreds of beach cleans, mobilising thousands of volunteers and removing considerable quantities of marine litter from our coastline each year.
We’re concerned about the impact of plastic pollution; we sell refills and strive to make our packaging as environmentally friendly as possible.
Our refill fountains allow you to restock on your favourites without the extra plastic, and paired with out Forever Bottles, you will be making the ultimate eco-conscious choice! #FILLFORTHEFUTURE
