Fair Trade Shea Butter

Shea is all about women.

Our founder, Olivier Baussan was at an airport when he heard about Shea butter for the first time, over 30 years ago. As he learned the story of this sacred tree, its nuts harvested exclusively by women, he decided to change destination and take the next flight to Ouagadougou.

Since then, we’ve worked together with the women of Burkina Faso to help them achieve their business goals and economic independence, and bring you 100% fair trade, sustainable, organic Shea products. So you can feel good knowing that while our Shea range protects your skin, it’s also helping to protect the interests of over 10,000 Burkinabé women.

Why shea?

Shea butter is a multi-talented ingredient that protects and nourishes your skin so well, it’s no wonder Burkinabé women call Shea “the tree of life”. Our range has high a Shea content, which soothes and softens your skin, while also strengthening your skin’s natural barrier to protect against dryness. So skin stays smooth, healthy, and hydrated in even the most extreme winter conditions.

Beauty Tips

Keep your skin nourished and protected with our Shea beauty tips!

TAKE EXTRA CARE IN WINTER

Cold winter weather and biting winds can really do a number on your skin. You need to take extra care when your skin’s exposed to the elements since dry, cold weather causes the moisture in your skin to evaporate more quickly, leading to dehydration, dryness, and chapping. Make sure that your skin is fully dry before leaving your house in winter, and make sure to moisturise more often. It’s also a good idea to choose products that are tested and proven in extreme, cold climates, like our Shea Intensive Hand Balm, Shea Ultra-rich Body Cream. And don’t forget to protect your pout from chapping with our Shea Intense Lip Balm.

CLEANSE POST-WORKOUT

Exercise is great for boosting circulation and providing skin with a glowing appearance, but sweating can cause more water loss, making skin feel dry. After exercising, make sure to rinse your face with lukewarm water and moisturize with our Shea Ultra-rich Comforting Cream immediately afterward.

TRAVEL SAVVY

When travelling by air, don't be tempted to rinse your face with water - it will only evaporate in the plane’s dry environment, and lead to further dehydration. Instead, where possible, cleanse before boarding and always follow with a Shea moisturizer. This is especially important on long haul flights, when you’re exposed to the dry, recycled air for longer periods of time. Pop a couple of our travel-sized Shea products in your carry on - like our Intensive Hand Balm, Light Comforting Cream, and Intense Lip Balm – to fight dehydration and soothe skin all flight long.
